Koeberg: Unit 2 shutdown won't affect power supply

CAPE TOWN - Koeberg officials maintain a shutdown at one of its units will not affect power supply.
Unit two at the power station was brought offline for maintenance and refuelling last month.
Briefing the parliamentary portfolio committee at Koeberg today, officials say the current maintenance plan is on track and is expected to run until the end of the year.
Koeberg's station manager explains the plant accounts for 4,4 percent of the country's electricity production and only one percent of Eskom's fuel bill.
But he says routine maintenance cycles need to be adhered to in the interest of continued efficient production.
The plant operates on a maintenance cycle every 15 to 18 months, with units taken offline for 35 to 100 day depending on the type of outage.
Officials are confident unit two's maintenance will not affect capacity.
