JOHANNESBURG - Police are searching for three people linked to an attempted robbery at the Woodmead Retail Park.

Earlier today, a man and woman entered a jewellery store at the complex pretending to be a couple.

They were later joined by a third person who allegedly confronted the cashier with a firearm.

Authorities say the trio fled after an employee pressed the panic button.

The police's Doniah Mothutsane said, "The suspects fled without taking anything from the store. No shots were fired, no one was injured and no arrests have been made."

Last month, three suspects shot and wounded the owner of a jewellery store during a robbery at the Campus Square mall in Melville.

Police said the suspects fled the shop with jewellery worth thousands of rands in a black BMW.

The gang entered the shop, held the owner at gun point and then fired several shots as they made their getaway.
