Zuma pays homage to cops killed in the line of duty
The president says it's a harsh reality that criminals in society have no regard for human life.
Zuma has been joined by National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega and Police Minister Nathi Nhleko, to honour the men and women in blue at the Union Buildings this afternoon.
Nearly 60 officers have lost their lives in the past year.
The president has raised serious concerns over the high number of officers that have been killed in the country while protecting the lives of innocent people.
He says it's clear that criminals are now targeting police officers.
Earlier family members and relatives of the deceased laid flowers during a wreath laying ceremony.
Many were emotional as they remembered their loved ones, who dedicated their lives to serving the public.
Zuma has urged South Africans to use this month to highlight the plight of police killings nationwide.
