Rugby player suffers heart attack on the field
The under-21 rugby player is receiving medical treatment after collapsing.
CAPE TOWN - A DHL Western Province Under-21 rugby player is receiving medical treatment after collapsing during a match at Newlands yesterday.
The player - who the Rugby Union didn't want to name - is believed to have suffered cardiac arrest.
The player collapsed on the field during the team's provincial under-21 match.
They were playing against the Leopards from North West Province at Newlands Stadium.
In a statement, the Western Province Rugby Union says rapid response emergency procedures were immediately put into place.
The union adds the player was transported to hospital for further medical care.
