DA chooses Tshwane’s Solly Msimanga as 2016 mayoral candidate
The party says Msimanga, from the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, has outstanding qualities as a leader.
JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) has chosen Solly Msimanga from the Gauteng Provincial Legislature as its Tshwane mayoral candidate for the 2016 Local Government Elections.
The announcement was made at the Tshwane City Hall today.
The party has set its sights on a number of metropolitan municipalities ahead of next year's local government polls.
Other candidates included Brandon Topham and Bronwyn Engelbrecht.
The DA's John Moodey says while it wasn't a very easy decision to make, Msimanga has outstanding qualities as a leader.
"Solly has got a heck of a lot of experience in terms of leadership. He had been the regional chairperson of Gauteng North. He had been a senior councillor in the City of Tshwane. He'd done exceptionally good work and leadership within the Provincial Legislature, and of course he is the chairperson of the task team in the province of Gauteng."
