Roodepoort primary to be re-opened
The school was closed last month after violence broke out amid allegations of corruption and racism.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Premier David Makhura has announced Roodepoort Primary School will be re-opened next Tuesday.
Makhura met with the mediation task team as well as community members from Davidsonville earlier today to discuss a way forward.
The team was set up to resolve a dispute between staff at the West Rand school and parents, who have demanded the principal and deputy be fired.
Education MEC Panyanza Lesufi temporarily closed the school last month after violence broke out amid allegations of corruption and racism.
The Davidsonville Community Forum's Jerome Lottering says they welcome the premier's decision.
"What we should consider is the education of our learners, our kids, it's more important than anything else. We needed to take a decision to make sure that we try to normalise the situation at the school."
