Kids locked in house as mum goes on 4-day drinking spree

CAPE TOWN - A Delft mother has been arrested after allegedly leaving her three young children home alone for nearly a week.
It's believed the children aged between one and nine, were locked up in their house for four days.
Concerned neighbours alerted police.
Spokesperson Frederick Van Wyk said they've been taken to a place of safety.
"We've arrested the 35-year-old mother in Delft for child neglect and abandonment. It was alleged by neighbours that she left her three children alone at home for four days after she went on a drinking spree."
Western Cape Social Development MEC Albert Fritz has welcomed the arrest.
"The Department of Social Development will again and again say to everyone, that we will continue to support the police in effecting such arrests, and also to secure conviction of any parent who neglects their children."
