JOHANNESBURG - The South African Weather Service says low temperatures are still on the cards for Gauteng province this week, going into the weekend.

Gautengers marked the beginning of spring on Tuesday after more than a week of high temperatures.

Forecasters say this year's winter was warmer than usual, meaning a hotter summer is also expected, with a lower chance of the normal rainfall in Gauteng.

The Weather Service's Dipou Tawana said the low pressure system will come in by Friday.

"The front is expected to move through from Thursday into Friday. Bring some light rain in certain places. Perhaps this is our last cold snap."
