Task team set to quell Go George tensions
The group was set up following violent protests in Thembalethu over the local BRT system.
CAPE TOWN - The multi-party task team established to calm tensions related to the implementation of the Go George bus system is due to meet with members of the taxi industry soon.
The group was set up following violent protests in Thembalethu, where several busses were set alight.
Taxi operators affiliated to the uNcedo George Taxi Association are opposed to the new bus service, claiming discussions about the roll-out of the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) have been marred in corruption.
The municipality's Peter Pepler says, "This is a task team that will survey, discuss and come up solutions. Their main aim initially would be just to get all the parties together from the ministry of transport to all parties in the taxi industry."
