Stellies Senate passes transformation motion
This decision comes in the wake of claims of lack of transformation mainly by Open Stellenbosch.
CAPE TOWN - Stellenbosch University's senate has passed a transformation motion. One of the university's highest statutory bodies met on Friday to discuss the issue.
This decision comes as the university is in the spotlight, with claims of lack of transformation mainly by student group, Open Stellenbosch.
University spokesperson Martin Viljoen said transformation discussions will continue.
"The senate confirmed its clear support to transformation and also expressed its concern over incidences of racism and sexual harassment on campus and it also lend its support to management transformation initiatives."
Stellenbosch University management will respond to the racism allegations in Parliament next week Tuesday.
They were summoned to appear before the Portfolio Committee after political parties called for a probe into the matter.
Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande has also written to the university council demanding a report on how it plans to address the issues raised.
