JOHANNESBURG - Uber is experimenting with a new bus-style system that will make its Uber Pool services a lot cheaper in San Francisco.

The new 'Smart Route' system offers discounts on rides to passengers who are willing meet an Uber Pool cab along a popular route.

Instead of matching you with another ride heading in the same direction and picking you up at your destination, riders will walk to meet an Uber Pool car traveling along a proposed route.

The smart routes appear in green on the applications map and the rider is rewarded with a US$1 discount.

The company is reportedly looking at extending the service if it proves to be efficient for both drivers and cab users.
