Suspected cop killer shot dead in Hillbrow

JOHANNESBURG - A suspect accused of murdering a police officer in Hillbrow has been killed in a shootout with officials this morning.

Warrant officer Moses Mosekwa (47) was killed allegedly by two men while on patrol on Saturday.

The second suspect was arrested and police recovered a firearm stolen from an official.

The police's Mashadi Selepe said, "It was after an intensive manhunt with the help of the community who heeded the call of action to rally behind us in bringing suspects to book together with our Crime Intelligence."

Meanwhile, another officer was killed in Atteridgeville on Friday night, and today Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Maloban e is set to visit the families of the two slain officers, and another who is in a stable condition in hospital.

She says she will be accompanied by some of the province's police officers.

"In our neighbourhoods, people know that there are policemen and obviously even criminals will know that you're a policeman and he became an easy target for those criminals."
