Yolande Korkie apologises to hostage negotiator
Yolande Korkie met with the Gift of the Givers' Anas al-Hamati on Saturday for the first time.
JOHANNESBURG - The widow of Pierre Korkie has apologised to the man at the centre of her husband's hostage negotiation for putting his own life in danger while trying to secure the Bloemfontein teacher's release.
Yolande Korkie met with the Gift of the Givers' Yemen office manager Anas al-Hamati on Saturday for the first time.
Korkie was killed almost a year ago when he was caught up in the cross fire of U.S armed forces as they tried to secure the release of an American hostage.
Yolande was released in January, months after the couple was taken hostage by the rebel group in 2013.
Al-Hamati says Yolande knows he did his best to try and bring her husband back home safely.
"Yolande told me that if anything happens, I will not blame you. I know you're doing your best. I know you put yourself and your family in a dangerous situation."
He says Yolande even apologised for putting his life in danger in order to secure the Korkie's freedom.
"She said forgive me because I put you in danger. I know all the things that you did for me."
