JOHANNESBURG - The University of Witwatersrand has decided not to allow the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) to participate in the Students Representative Council (SRC) elections after preliminary investigations indicated that the party instigated the violence which disrupted a debate by candidates on Tuesday.

THE EFF is not happy with the role the SRC play on campus saying it only legitimise the institution while nobody listens to students.

This week a fist fight broke out between students which included the EFF.

Campus security had to intervene.

Seven students have since been placed on suspension while investigations into their conduct are underway.

The university's spokesperson Shirona Patel says the election process will however continue next week.

"They'll have to show remorse and take accountability and then make representation to council before they can be allowed back at the student society. They also need to promise to abide by the electoral code of conduct and the student code of conduct."

Meanwhile the EFF believes the suspension is illegal.
