JOHANNESBURG - It was a disappointing weekend of football during the MTN8 semifinals with both games ending in draws.

Henrico Botes scored a second-half equaliser to ensure the first leg of the MTN8 semi-final between Ajax Cape Town and Bidvest Wits ended 1-1 at Coetzenberg Stadium.

Wits began the match stronger and it was a move against the run of play by Ajax which yielded the breakthrough early in the encounter with Toriq Losper providing the opener.

But it was the visitors who dominated much of the contest and were rewarded for their persistence with an equaliser with less than 15 minutes remaining through a Botes goal.

Prince Nxumalo provided the pass for Losper running into the box, and his first time shot found the corner of the net to grab a 1-0 lead for the hosts.

Bloemfontein Celtic and Kaizer Chiefs locked horns at the Free State Stadium and the match ended 1-1.

Celtic striker Helder Pelembe unleashed a crashing long range strike to beat Itumeleng Khune hands down.

Bernard Parker's first-time long range strike sailed into the top corner and finally gave Chiefs the goal three minutes after the hour-mark.

The second leg of the semifinals will take place on the weekend of the 29 and 30 August and the winner of that game will book their place in the final and contend for the coveted R8 million prize money.
