JOHANNESBURG - Polokwane City went to the top of the new Premier Soccer League (PSL) log after the first weekend back in action, coming from 2-1 down to beating Bloemfontein Celtic 3-2 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Elias Pelembe found the back of the net as Bidvest Wits overcame former coach Roger de Sa's Ajax Cape Town 2-1.

Mamelodi Sundowns will be disappointed with their start to the campaign, after they were held to a tight goalless draw with Platinum Stars at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Another side who will be disappointed in their first weekend back in the PSL are Free State Stars, who couldn't keep up with Black Aces and slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Goble Park on Saturday.

Sunday's action saw a good day for the 'smaller' sides, after a 10-man Chippa United held PSL title holders Kaizer Chiefs to a goalless draw.

On the other side, Golden Arrows announced their return to the top division with an impressive 1-0 win over the University of Pretoria.

Fellow new boys Jomo Cosmos will get their league campaign underway on Monday night with a trip to Maritzburg United, while Orlando Pirates only play their first match on Tuesday against SuperSport United, following their exploits in the CAF Confederations Cup.
