‘Mashesha helped put Durban music on the map’
Big Nuz’s Sibusiso Khomo popularly known as ‘Mashesha’ died from complications after undergoing surgery.
JOHANNESBURG - The owner of record label Afrotainment DJ Tira has described the late member of well-known kwaito group Big Nuz as a talented musician who put Durban music on the map.
Sibusiso Khomo popularly known as 'Mashesha' died on Friday.
It's believed he suffered complications after undergoing surgery.
DJ Tira says Mashesha was the reason he signed the group when he heard them perform for the first time.
"We all played our role in making sure that there is a genre called Durban Kwaito which dominated South Africa and is still doing well even now. He was also a big part of that and a big part of Big Nuz."
Big Nuz, a Durban based kwaito group made up of three members, blasted to fame in 2007 with their first single Uyoysholo Wena.
The trio has scooped numerous awards, including Album of the Year in 2010 at the MTN South African Music Awards for its third album Undisputed, which featured the song Umlilo.
Meanwhile, messages of condolences and tributes continue to pour in for the late musician.
