JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi will reveal the findings of a forensic investigation conducted by auditing firm KPMG into alleged corrupt activities at Glenvista High School.

Lesufi was approached by whistle-blowers and launched a probe into allegations of extreme financial mismanagement and improper governance practices.

Some of the claims include that the school was operating more than one bank account without the approval of the department and that it irregularly opened an investment account and that it purchased air travel tickets for private use.

It's also alleged that payments were made for the levies of an individual's home, and hunting fees using the school's staff loan account.

The education department spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane would not yet be drawn on the findings but says they're "shocking".

"The findings are mainly in the area of financial management and weakness in governance. Therefore the report will have an impact on all those responsible for such functions."

She says Lesufi will not hesitate to take strong action against those found guilty of any wrongdoing.
