Khayelitsha rape survivor fears for her life

The 23-year-old's boyfriend, who tried to help, was shot dead by her assailant.

CAPE TOWN - The family of a Cape Town woman who was raped while she was sleeping over at her boyfriend's house says she fears for her life.

The 23-year-old's boyfriend, who tried to help, was shot dead by her assailant.

The incident happened in Khayelitsha on Friday.

The rape survivor is partially deaf and cannot speak properly.

A family member says she is receiving trauma counselling.

"She's scared. This morning she told me she wants to relocate the Eastern Cape."

She says her cousin now fears the man who raped her and shot dead her boyfriend, may come back for her.

No arrests have been made.

Provincial ANC officials, who visited the family on Monday, described the incident as senseless and cold-blooded.

The slain boyfriend will be buried on Saturday.
