Camps Bay murder accused could be moved from Pollsmoor
Diego Novella could be moved from Pollsmoor to Goodwood Prison for safety reasons.
CAPE TOWN - A Guatemalan man accused of killing his American girlfriend while on holiday in Cape Town could be moved to Goodwood Prison for safety reasons.
Diego Novella appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Friday for the murder of United States marketing executive Gabriela Kabrins Alban, whose body was found at a Camps Bay hotel last Wednesday.
The matter has been provisionally postponed until next week.
Novella's lawyer William Booth told the court his client was robbed while in detention at Pollsmoor Prison.
Booth requested Novella be placed in a single cell, but because Pollsmoor does not have any, he suggested the Guatemalan be transferred to the Goodwood Prison.
Prosecutor Carmen Daniels was not opposed to that, but said it was a decision for the Department of Correctional Services to make.
It was then decided Novella would be moved to the hospital wing in Pollsmoor pending an application for a transfer to Goodwood.
