'Tembisa Hospital CEO compromised health services'
Dr Daisy Pekane was removed from her post following numerous complaints from the public.
JOHANNESBURG - The CEO of Tembisa Hospital on the East Rand has been removed from her post with immediate effect.
Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu made a surprise visit to the facility yesterday, following numerous complaints from the public and staff.
Mahlangu says the state in which she found the facility was 'unacceptable' and said Dr Daisy Pekane would be redeployed.
"Tembisa was no longer run by a team and the CEO was no longer able to work with the collectives in the hospital; and that comprised services to a great extent. Our investment was not being realised and benefiting the patients at the end of the day."
Last week a woman accused hospital staff of refusing to give her medical attention.
Dr Barbara-Ann Ribeiro has been appointed as acting CEO of the hospital in the meantime.
