Lesufi sends stern warning to public schools
Panyaza Lesufi warned public schools against admitting only certain children based on their race & language.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has warned public schools admitting certain children based on their race and language that he will take the matter straight to the Constitutional Court.
Earlier this year, Curro's Roodeplaat School in Pretoria was accused of racial segregation but in June the department decided not to withdraw their licence.
Lesufi says it is unacceptable that only a few schools who are refusing to submit to change hold the future of children at ransom.
"I am pleading with you and with SGBs that we have to change this law."
The MEC says he will not back down in his fight for equality.
He says it's unacceptable that children still need to travel long distances to schools because they are excluded from nearby education facilities based on their race or the language they speak.
