JOHANNESBURG - Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) President Joseph Mathunjwa says his union's next step will be to re-negotiate the salaries of their members, with three major gold companies over the next week, as talks head for a stalemate.

Amcu held a central mass meeting in Westonaria this weekend, where its members rejected a wage hike of between 6 and 17 percent.

The Chamber of Mines says this is the final offer from companies and it includes a R1,000 increase from the major companies and R500 from Harmony Gold.

Mathunjwa says they are making progress.

"Amcu has a majority at Sibanye and Anglo Gold Ashanti; and we are working our way through to Harmony."
