CAPE TOWN - An eight-year-old boy who choked to death at a Bonnievale school will be laid to rest this weekend.

Caleb Koker apparently choked while eating an apple at the Wakkerstroom Primary School last week.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Western Cape Education Department.

The department says two qualified first aid trained teachers tried to resuscitate the learner but their attempts were unsuccessful.

The African National Congress' Lionel Adendorf says an autopsy was conducted yesterday.

Adendorf says while the child's death came as a huge shock his family is coping.

"The mother and the grandparents are doing well and they are very encouraged by the support from the community, teachers and the Western Cape Education Department."
