Rolling blackouts expected until 10pm

JOHANNESBURG - Power utility Eskom has implemented stage one load shedding.

Stage two will kick in from 5pm to 10pm today.

The power utility made the announcement on its Twitter account this afternoon.

Eskom has implemented #load_shedding stage 1 from 12h00 to 17h00 & stage 2 will be implemented from 17h00 until 22h00 today.

On Wednesday, Eskom said load shedding was likely during peak hours for the remainder of the week.

Eskom has been implementing rolling blackouts regularly this year, saying it is trying to catch up with maintenance work.

The parastatal said some of its generating units are offline due to technical faults.
