Meyiwa murder case: Cops have ‘overwhelming evidence'
The Gauteng Commissioner says they are working tirelessly to make sure they track down those responsible.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police say they have "overwhelming evidence" concerning the murder of Bafana Bafana Captain Senzo Meyiwa.
The sports star was shot dead at his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo's mother's home in Vosloorus on the East Rand in October last year.
At the time, police and government assured the family they would prioritise the investigation.
Gauteng police would not be drawn on the evidence collected or who they are investigating as this could influence their case.
But Gauteng Police Commissioner Lesetja Mothiba says investigators are working tirelessly to make sure they track down those responsible.
"Our team is travelling between KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng on a weekly basis. Criminal investigation is not an easy process; the team is working very hard."
Police say this time they want to make sure they follow up on "credible evidence".
A month ago, Meyiwa's father said he had received threatening call s from people he believed were his son's killers.
However, police accused him of jeopardising the murder case by speaking to the media and releasing information close to the investigation.
