JOHANNESBURG - The chairman of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) has opened a case with the police after discovering an alleged plan to execute him.

Popo Molefe has told Eyewitness News that a discussion allegedly took place about his security at an MK Veterans meeting at the end of May.

"Subsequent to me receiving that information, on a number of occasions there have been strange individuals who have attempted to gain entry to the complex where I live," says Molefe.

After noticing this suspicious activity at his Sandton home, Molefe decide to approach the police, who are now investigating a case of conspiracy to commit murder.

He says he doesn't want the issue to become political and he is confident the police will take the matter seriously.

But the MK Veterans' Kebby Maphatsoe says he was at the meeting that Molefe is referring to and they didn't discuss him.

Prasa has been in the spotlight in recent weeks, with CEO Lucky Montana being dismissed and engineering head Daniel Mthimkhulu being suspended for lacking the necessary qualifications for his post.
