Ipid investigating rogue Edenvale cops
Victims came forward complaining about being harassed, assaulted & wrongfully arrested at Edenvale station.
JOHANNESBURG - The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is now probing rogue officers at the Edenvale station after more alleged victims came forward complaining about being harassed, assaulted and wrongfully arrested.
Carte Blanche spoke to three East Rand men who had evidence of being beaten by a specific officer described as the "the man with the golden tooth."
Gauteng police bosses have since placed the constable on suspension pending the investigation, while a probe into Edenvale managers is also underway.
More people have since come forward and told Eyewitness News about the abuse they've suffered at the hands of the officers at the Edenvale station.
The police watchdog's Moses Dlamini says they take these claims extremely seriously.
"We will investigate to obtain more information and we will look at that information, what the allegations are and look at what part of it falls under Ipid; and we will investigate on that basis."
