JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police have confirmed that the wife of murdered senior police officer Tirhani Maswanganyi has been killed in a car crash in the north of Pretoria.

The major general's body was found partially naked and bound in a field near Hammanskraal in June 2013.

Three men are standing trial in the High Court in Pretoria for his murder that's alleged to have been a hit.

Shareen Maswanganyi and three relatives were en route to Pretoria along the R101 this morning when the collision happened.

Police spokesperson Katlego Mogale said, "She was with the other passengers, two of their kids and her sister. The three have been taken to hospital. The cause of the accident is still undermined."

It's understood they were on their way to court to attend the trial of the men accused of murdering her husband, but police could not confirm this.

It was along this same stretch of road that the lieutenant general's body was found two years ago.
