JOHANNESBURG - Police say they are following fresh leads in the murder case of former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa.

Authorities say they are conducting tests on evidence found at the crime scene.

Meyiwa was shot and killed in Vosloorus on the East Rand last October.

The police's Solomon Makgale says they have collected statements from over 100 sources.

"As part of these investigations we had questioned a number of people. We have obviously collected evidence that may be of value from the crime scene. We are testing and are continuing to match with all the other information that we gather," says Makgale.

Meyiwa's father, Sam, has criticised the police for failing to make progress, but the police in-turn say he has been jeopardising the case by talking to the media.

Last year, police questioned 13 people in connection with the shooting, but they were all released.
