JOHANNESBURG - Former president Nelson Mandela's widow Graca Machel says she looks forward to the day when food in South Africa is available and affordable for all citizens.
Machel joined thousands in the build up to Mandela Day in Sandton on Friday.
The day is celebrated internationally each year on 18 July to correspond with the late statesman's birthday.
South Africans and international visitors alike are currently taking part in charity initiatives across the country.
Machel has thanked South Africans for giving 67 minutes of their time for a good cause.
She says they are not only giving of their time.
"The most important thing is to see the face of South Africans we are reaching out to. We want to thank you for your time."
She spent her 67 minutes yesterday with the Stop hunger Now campaign packaging over 1 million meals.
