JOHANNESBURG - A group of Dutch teenagers affected by South Africa's new visa regulations are now making alternative plans to tour the country.

The eight have been forced to halt a scheduled humanitarian trip to South Africa after they failed to produce unabridged birth certificates and parental consent affidavits.

While Home Affairs Department has since authorised their entry, they've struggled to secure another flight in time for their youth conference in South Africa.

Lara Kruiskamp of youth empowerment organisation, The President's Award, said the Dutch group will have to miss out on planned activities because they're unable to board their flight to Johannesburg.

"We're doing our best to see if we can't get them onto another airline, so at least they can participate in some of the activities."

The minors were forced to wait more than 12 hours at a Swiss airport while outstanding paperwork was collected and sent to Home Affairs officials in South Africa.

The department has reminded critics of the new laws that they're being implemented for the safety of children.
