CAPE TOWN - Some Strandfontein residents say they will petition for heavy sentences for the men accused of assaulting and hijacking Chad Baron.

Baron died on Saturday after spending more than a month in a coma following the violent attack.

The 26-year-old's badly beaten body was dumped in an abandoned building in the area before his attackers made off with his car.

He had also been stabbed several times.

Community members now say they are working to have the derelict building Baron was found in demolished.

The local community policing forum's Colleen Daniels said they will picket outside court to make sure bail is denied.

"We're going to picket at their appearance on 27 July to say that we don't want bail for them. The violence with which they beat him up, they really intended to kill him. It was a vicious attack by somebody that was known to him."
