Nigerian president sacks top service chiefs
The chief of defence, the heads of the army, the navy and the air force were relieved of their appointments.
NIGERIA - President Muhammadu Buhari has fired Nigeria's chief of defence and the heads of the army, the navy and the air force.
The service chiefs were relieved of their appointments this afternoon.
They were all appointed by former president Goodluck Jonathan and it was expected that their appointment may not survive the new administration of Buhari.
The delay in removing the military commanders, security expert have said was compounding the fight against the Jihadist sect, Boko Haram.
Earlier on Monday, some members of the civilian-JTF escaped death narrowly when an explosive device believed to have been hidden very close to a checkpoint exploded injuring a number of them.
