Grabouw teen hospitalised after being raped & stabbed
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the teenager’s attack.
CAPE TOWN - A 14-year-old girl has been hospitalised after she was raped and attacked in Grabouw near Cape Town.
The incident occurred in an open field in the Overberg town at the weekend.
The police's Frederick van Wyk says a 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the teenager's rape.
"He will appear today in the Grabouw Magistates Court on charges of rape, attempted murder and robbery."
A photograph believed to be that of the child has been circulated on social media.
The images features a girl in hospital, her face badly bruised and swollen.
The minor also sustained a neck wound.
It's not yet clear which sharp object has been used by the perpetrator to puncture her neck.
Meanwhile, some Grabouw community members have marched to the local police station, to oppose bail for the man accused of raping the teenage girl.
The Elgin Grabouw Civic Association's Margaret le Roux said, "This is not acceptable in our community; just to be brutally raped. We condemn such behaviour."
