CAPE TOWN - A man has been shot dead near the Netreg Railway Station in Cape Town.

While police say the motive for the killing is still unclear, it's understood several shots were fired in the area on Sunday morning.

The police's Thembinkosi Kinana said, "We are investigating a murder case after a 36-year-old man was shot. The motive for the incident is unknown and no arrests have been made at this stage."

Meanwhile, the Red Cross Children's Hospital says an 11-year-old Mitchells Plain girl who was shot in an apparent gang-related incident is recovering well.

The child was shot in the chest and a 20-year-old man wounded in the leg when a 17-year-old man allegedly opened fire on a group of people standing on the side of the road in Rocklands last week.

The hospital's Angelique Jordaan says the bullet missed the girl's vital organs.

"She is a stable condition and progressing well. She is being kept for observation and will probably be released next week."

The suspect had since appeared in court on charges of attempted murder and will be back in the dock next month.
