JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Correctional Services says it has identified three of the instigators of the 'inmate Facebook account' from Cape Town and disciplinary processes will be instituted against them.
Following an investigation at the prison, the department is expected to start the installation of state of the art cell phone detection technology to be piloted at centres across the country, including St. Albans Prison in the Eastern Cape and Kgosi Mampuru Prison in Gauteng.
The department's Manelisi Wolela said, "The investigation is being done internally and also with our external partners who will do an extensive investigation into this matter. Over and above that, the department is continuing to intensify its security operations."
Some of the pictures include selfies, inmates sleeping and prisoners brandishing gang signs.
