Pensioner shot dead during bottle store robbery in JHB
Police say the man was a customer who refused to hand his wallet over to the gunmen.
JOHANNESBURG - A man has been shot dead during an armed robbery at a bottle store in Kibler Park, south of Johannesburg.
It's understood nine armed men cornered a security guard before hitting the liquor outlet earlier this evening.
The 65-year-old who was killed is said to be a customer who refused to hand over his wallet to the robbers.
The police's Katlego Mogale says the men made off with an undisclosed amount of money.
"They cornered the security guard outside, pushed him into the shop and demanded the money. They stole an undisclosed amount of cash, alcohol and cigarettes. And as they were leaving they wanted to rob a 65-year-old man of his wallet."
At the same time, six armed men are still on the loose after robbing a Vodacom store at the Northgate Mall today.
They held staff at the Vodacom shop at gunpoint before stealing stock worth R1,6 million.
