CAPE TOWN - A 20-year-old University of Cape Town (UCT) student who had his leg bitten off by a shark has now been discharged from hospital two weeks after the attack.

Caleb Swanepoel had his right leg bitten off by a shark while surfing at Buffels Bay.

His mother Tracy Swanepoel says he's in high hopes.

"At the moment he's doing very well because we have been taken care of. He feels positive and we hope to go home today; it's early days but the doctor feels confident in Caleb's strength."

This shark attack took place only a day after another UCT student, Dylan Reddering, was also bitten by a shark in Plettenberg Bay.
