JOHANNESBURG - Cocaine to the value of R7 million has been seized at OR Tambo International Airport during a bust by customs officials.

The South African Revenue Service (Sars) says 26,4kg of cocaine was found wrapped in brown tape and disguised as body cream in luggage which originated from Brazil and was destined for London.

The seizure is the biggest discovery of cocaine at the airport to date.

Sars spokesperson Luther Lebelo says nobody was arrested.

"Because it was discovered as luggage, no one was arrested. The matter is then handed over to police for investigation."

At the same time, Sars officials at the national mail distribution centre confiscated 40,000 Viagra tablets posted to South Africa from Hong Kong.

"They were also declared as false plastic toys. We are very happy they were seized," says Lebelo.

Last week, Sars also seized more than 200kg of ivory in the cargo section of OR Tambo.

Lebelo said it was one of the biggest ivory busts in the country.
