CAPE TOWN - A woman who witnessed a vigilante attack in Heideveld on Monday morning says residents are still in shock.

Two men, accused of stealing a cellphone, were ambushed by a large crowd and burnt alive.

It's believed they were part of a gang which has been terrorising the community.

Heideveld residents have described how the two men were chased by a large mob earlier today.

They were accused of robbing a woman of a cellphone in neighbouring Gugulethu.

One resident says the suspects were apprehended by the mob at a pedestrian bridge, where they were pelted with rocks before being doused with petrol and burned alive.

"Residents were all shocked at the way the two guys looked… Smoke came out of their bodies."

A family member of one of the deceased says the young man was wanted by police for a series of housebreakings.
