JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police say another 22 boys have been rescued from an illegal initiation school near Meadowlands in Soweto on Friday night.

Police say the boys were kidnapped from Orange Farm and taken to a mine dump in the area.

The Department of Traditional Affairs has recorded at least eight deaths since the start of the circumcision season.

Deputy Minister Obed Bapela has since condemned the kidnappings and emphasised the need for stricter laws that will lead to the conviction of suspects operating illegal schools.

Police spokesperson Phephi Matlou-Mtetho said, "All the boys were found dehydrated. They were then taken to hospital; we are busy with investigations."

On Monday, Gauteng police also said they rescued 21 boys from an initiation school near Orange Farm.

There have been increased reports of kidnappings since the start of the circumcision season.

Police said some of the boys were released to their homes.
