JOHANNESBURG - Police say a security guard who was wounded in a shootout with armed robbers at the Oriental Plaza is in stable condition in hospital.
The security guard was left critically wounded and one suspect was shot dead after two gunmen stormed into the FNB at the centre in Fordsburg and attacked the guards there.
While police are still investigating at the scene, centre management says business has resumed.
The police's Katlego Mogale says one suspect is still on the run.
"The security guard is in a stable condition in hospital following the shootout at Oriental Plaza."
Earlier, a woman who happened to be caught in the commotion described what happened.
"We heard two gunshots and then we saw a woman running up the staircase adjacent to my store and they were screaming, 'there's a robbery, there's a robbery'. In a short span of time a number of gunshots were fired."
