Sandton City suffers another structural collapse
This is the second time this month a ceiling collapsed at Sandton City in Johannesburg.
JOHANNESBURG - Sandton City management has confirmed there's been another structural collapse at the popular shopping centre.
This is the second incident at the centre in the past few weeks.
In a statement released earlier today, CEO at JHI Properties, Nomzamo Radebe, said no customers were injured during the incident.
Radebe however confirmed that two construction workers suffered minor injuries and received care on site.
Earlier this month the ceiling between the banking mall and Nelson Mandela Square caved in, injuring one woman.
Elfi Loambo was rushed to hospital after a small portion of the ceiling between the banking mall and Nelson Mandela Square caved in.
An empty store has been closed off on the upper level of Nelson Mandela Square and management was on site to assess the damage.
It's believed the ceiling collapsed during construction work at the shop earlier today.
Two construction workers have been treated for minor injuries.
Business at the centre has not been affected by the incident.
SANDTON CITY DENIES IGNORING ROOF COLLAPSE VICTIM
Sandton City management refuted claims that it has not been in communication with the woman who was injured when a part of a ceiling collapsed earlier this month.
A woman claiming to be her friend took to social media saying the mall's management have not been helping her.
But Sandton City's Julie Hillary argued they are, in fact, communicating with Loambo's family and paying her hospital bills.
