CAPE TOWN - An Uitsig community leader says scores of children's lives are at risk during the school holiday period currently underway.

Rival gangsters continue with gun battles in the area.

A 14-year-old boy was shot in the head while playing with friends in his backyard this past weekend.

David van Wyk says while parents fear for their children's lives it's hard to keep them indoors during the three week long break.

"The kids are on holidays now and they can't play in the field or the park because the shooting is going on and on. At the moment the parents are trying their best to keep children in the house but how can you keep a youngster in your house when they want to play outside."
