CT beachgoers urged to be cautious after shark attacks
Two Cape Town students were bitten in separate shark encounters this weekend.
CAPE TOWN - With the start of the mid-year school holidays, beachgoers along the Garden Route have been urged to be cautious following two shark incidents.
Two Cape Town students, Caleb Swanepoel and Dylan Reddering, were bitten in separate shark encounters in Buffels Bay and Plettenberg Bay this weekend.
The 19-year-old Swanepoel lost his leg.
Shark expert Allison Kock explains why there's been an apparent increase in shark activity along the Southern Cape's coast.
"Along the Garden Route area there is a diverse array of prey, so if there is an abundance of fish in a particular area, one can expect an increase in the amount of sharks."
