Weather Alert: Flood warning issued for Cape Peninsula

Cape Peninsula disaster officials have been put on high alert as a cold front brings with it heavy rain.

CAPE TOWN - As severe weather returns to the Cape Peninsula, disaster management officials have again appealed to communities to take the necessary precautions against flooding.

A cold front has brought with it strong winds and heavy rains.

The provincial government's James Styan said informal settlements are among the most vulnerable by the severe floods.

"Make sure that the area around your home is clear. Water runs down the road so make sure that there are no blockages between your home and the road. Make sure your drain pipes are clean. Just listen to the radio for flood warnings."

Last week, Over 3,500 people were affected by flooding caused by heavy rains with Khayelitsha, Strand and Gugulethu being among those hardest hit.
