Consumers urged to brace for more load shedding
Stage one load shedding kicks in from 4pm today, and will continue until 10pm this evening.
JOHANNESBURG - Eskom has announced it will implement stage one load shedding today.
Rolling blackouts will take place 4pm today, and they're likely to continue until 10pm this evening.
The utility says this is due to increased electricity demand.
Yesterday the parastatal also implemented load shedding.
Stage one load shedding took place from 4pm until 5pm; followed by stage two load shedding from 5pm until 10pm.
As a result, consumers have been urged to use electricity sparingly.
In a statement the ailing parastatal said, "Eskom would like to assure customers that load shedding is implemented as a necessary measure to protect the power system and to ensure that maintenance is carried out in order to guarantee that our supply of electricity can be maintained in the long term.
"Any unexpected changes on the vulnerable and constrained power system could lead to a change in the load shedding stage at short notice.
"As we are currently experiencing cold weather conditions across the country, we urge electricity users to consider energy efficient ways of keeping warm."
