JOHANNESBURG - The wife of a senior Israeli politician has been accused of racism after tweeting that US President Barack Obama is 'black and weak'.

Judy Mozes, who is married to senior Likud official and Israel's Minister of the Interior Silvan Shalom, tweeted about 'Obama coffee', which she referred to as 'black and weak'.

She later deleted the tweet and posted a series of apologetic tweets.

I apologize, that was a stupid joke somebody told me.

President Obama I shouldnt have written the inappropriate joke I heard. I like people no matter about their race and religion.

But it seems the damage has already been done, with Mozes facing a severe Twitter backlash.

@JudyMozes not accepted, I will work to end the blank check you get from my country....

@JudyMozes you know what Israeli Coffee is? Bitter, hateful and deadly yet very easy to swallow as long as you don't look too closely.

@schaingarte @JudyMozes should have thought about that before posting. You're now rightly tagged as a racist.
