Hundreds gather for Jenna Lowe’s memorial in CT

The organ donor campaigner has been described as an inspiration to many despite her life’s challenges.

CAPE TOWN - Principal of Herschel Girls' School says Jenna Lowe never played the victim despite the challenges life threw at her.

A memorial service is being held in honour of the 21-year-old organ donor campaigner who passed away earlier this month.

She had been diagnosed with a rare lung disease in 2007 which led her to start a campaign to find a new pair of lungs as well as encouraging people to become organ donors.

Her family has extended an open invitation to anyone wanting to attend this afternoon's service.

Red and white balloons line the sun-lit-walk leading to the hall where the service is taking place.

Hundreds of family members, friends and members of the public have come to pay their respects to Lowe.

The school's headmaster Stuart West says Lowe continues to be an inspiration to everyone who hears her story.

"She never played the victim; always inspired others and took challenges as life threw them at her."

West says Lowe has given hope to many people even those who do not know her.

Lowe's former headmistress says she and her sister are extraordinary individuals for the message of hope they were able to spread at their schools.

Lin Heidmann says the Lowe family has been extraordinary.

"I think one of the things that was special about both her and her sister is that they shared the message with the school's girls and as a family they are extraordinary."
